Number of cars per capita
- Very rapid growth of car ownership since 2000 in Eastern Europe countries because of their lower equipment level, with 2 countries with a progression above 5%/year (Lithuania and Romania) and 4 others between 3% and 5%/year (Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland and Slovakia). The trend has slowed down in Lithuania, Bulgaria and Latvia since 2010.
- Slower progression in other EU countries due to saturation, especially since 2010 in Sweden, Luxembourg, Belgium and Malta, and since 2019 in Spain, Ireland and Austria.
- Car ownership exceeds 700 cars per 1000 inhabitants (24% above the EU average) in Poland and Cyprus and is closed to that level in Italy.
